In this publication, Sense-Lab presents a comprehensive overview of food systems in Brazil; highlights the main current challenges and resulting impacts; identifies leverage points such as themes, approaches, and mechanisms that can facilitate the necessary transition; and analyzes these leverage points in order to compare them in terms of the breadth and depth of the impact generated for society and the environment.

This guide is intended for leaders, mobilizers, ecosystem builders, and other professionals directly or indirectly involved in climate action.


A model for ideation and understanding of Nature-based Solutions (NbS)
In this publication, Sense-Lab focuses on adapting the concept of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to the Brazilian context. This effort aims to facilitate the identification and implementation of these solutions in diverse environments, from urban areas to rural regions or areas minimally modified by human activity.
The central element of this material is the proposed Canvas, a simple and visual model that helps us understand whether an intervention is a nature-based solution or not, based on essential dimensions: intervention, sustainability, and benefits.
The publication "New Businesses for Economic System Change" explores the ecosystem of organizations leading the way towards a regenerative and stakeholder-driven economic system. Based on desk research and interviews with key actors, the publication seeks to understand and promote new business models that align business operations with social and environmental objectives. In light of tools and approaches from the systems thinking school, the study also analyzes the movement towards a regenerative economy through business transformation.


Strategic Management with a focus on impact.
Ten years ago, Sense-Lab was born. It was created from the ideal of bringing strategy and innovation to the field of socio-environmental impact through processes of dialogue and synthesis of collective ideas. We were born believing that conversations change the world and that all social transformation begins with interaction between people.
Although the field of Impact Investing has grown, attracted diverse actors, and become very consistently structured, several challenges remain. A critical issue to be addressed is how to ensure the financial sustainability of Impact Investing. This guide, developed by Sense-Lab with support from ICE, compiles different mechanisms for combining positive social and environmental impact with financial sustainability through the sale of products and services.

Model C – An integrated approach
Based on the need for a comprehensive vision , including questions necessary to understand, model, and reflect on an Impact Business in its entirety, a new approach emerges, named Model C. In this model, business dimensions are present and demonstrate how the venture sustains itself financially through a market logic. However, the flow manifests itself in parallel with the social and/or environmental impact of a Theory of Change.
Opportunity for large companies to work with impact investing.
In June 2017, 40 organizations gathered at the invitation of the Social Finance Task Force in a Social Innovation Lab to discuss how to engage large companies in the field of Impact Investing and Business. From this movement, a process led by Sense-Lab emerged to study the different opportunities for large companies to engage with impact investing.


Released as an informative guide, the publication "The Role of Structuring Organizations in Strengthening Local Ecosystems of Impact Investing and Businesses" was technically coordinated by Sense-Lab and supported by the Humanize Institute. It presents the concepts of collective impact or the development of ecosystems supporting impact businesses that guide the work of structuring organizations, and the risks of the absence of these organizations in strategies for strengthening local ecosystems.
